  1. and thou shalt make it an oil of holy ointment, an ointment compound after the art of the apothecary : it shall be a holy anointing oil.

Those are the ingredients of a perfumish anointing oil

  1. And thou shalt anoint the tabernacle of the congregation therewith, and the ark of the testimony,
  2. and the table and all his vessels, and the candlestick and his vessels, and the altar of incense,
  3. and the altar of burnt offering with all his vessels, and the laver and his foot.

Anoint the place of meeting, the ark of testimony, the table, menorah, altar of incense, altar of burnt offering, basin, and all of their articles and utensils with it

Whoever remakes it or puts it on anything without authorization will be cut off

  1. ¶ And the Lord said unto Moses, Take unto thee sweet spices, stacte, and onycha, and galbanum ; these sweet spices with pure frankincense : of each shall there be a like weight :

  1. and thou shalt make it a perfume, a confection after the art of the apothecary, tempered together, pure and holy :
  2. and thou shalt beat some of it very small, and put of it before the testimony in the tabernacle of the congregation, where I will meet with thee : it shall be unto you most holy.

Make a perfumish like substance from them and season it with salt. Pure and Holy it is.
Grind some of it and turn it to powder, put it in front of the testimony, in the place of meeting. It is holy.

  1. And as for the perfume which thou shalt make, ye shall not make to yourselves according to the composition thereof : it shall be unto thee holy for the Lord.

Don’t remake this Incense to use. It is holy.

  1. Whosoever shall make like unto that, to smell thereto, shall even be cut off from his people.

  1. And thou shalt cut the ram in pieces, and wash the inwards of him, and his legs, and put them unto his pieces, and unto his head.

Cut the ram open and wash its insides. And legs and place them together with its head

  1. And thou shalt burn the whole ram upon the altar : it is a burnt offering unto the Lord : it is a sweet savor, an offering made by fire unto the Lord.

Then the last ram should be taken, slaughtered, then it’s blood should be taken and dabbed on the tip of the right ear of Aaron 👂🏾👈🏾 and same on his sons, on the tip of their right thumbs as well, and their right foot big toe, then the blood should be poured on the altar all round.

  1. And thou shalt take of the blood that is upon the altar, and of the anointing oil, and sprinkle it upon Aaron, and upon his garments, and upon his sons, and upon the garments of his sons with him : and he shall be hallowed, and his garments, and his sons, and his sons’ garments with him.

Take part of the blood on the altar along with anointing oil, and sprinkle it upon Aaron and his sons’ garments. That’s how the garments will be consecrated

  1. ¶ Also thou shalt take of the ram the fat and the rump, and the fat that covereth the inwards, and the caul above the liver, and the two kidneys, and the fat that is upon them, and the right shoulder ; for it is a ram of consecration :

Take part of the fat of the ram, with its tail, the fat inside, the membrane on the liver, the two kidneys, and the right thigh, because it is a ram of consecration

  1. and one loaf of bread, and one cake of oiled bread, and one wafer out of the basket of the unleavened bread that is before the Lord :

  1. ¶ And thou shalt take the breast of the ram of Aaron’s consecration, and wave it for a wave offering before the Lord : and it shall be thy part.

Take the breast of the ram that was used for consecration and Wave it. It is for you.

  1. And thou shalt sanctify the breast of the wave offering, and the shoulder of the heave offering, which is waved, and which is heaved up, of the ram of the consecration, even of that which is for Aaron, and of that which is for his sons :

Sanctify the breast of the wave offering, the shoulder of the heave offering (which is also waved and heaved up) of the ram of consecration…the ones belonging to both Aaron and sons

  1. and it shall be Aaron’s and his sons’ by a statute for ever from the children of Israel ; for it is a heave offering : and it shall be a heave offering from the children of Israel of the sacrifice of their peace offerings, even their heave offering unto the Lord.

And it shall be a rule that it be for Aaron and his sons forever. Because it is a heave offering, and it is from the heave and peace offerings of the children of Israel

  1. And if aught of the flesh of the consecrations, or of the bread, remain unto the morning, then thou shalt burn the remainder with fire : it shall not be eaten, because it is holy.

  1. And thou shalt offer every day a bullock for a sin offering for atonement : and thou shalt cleanse the altar, when thou hast made an atonement for it, and thou shalt anoint it, to sanctify it.

Every day, a bullock is to be offered as sin offering, apart from atoning, clean the altar and anoint it and sanctify it (This is meant to be for atonement of sin, and now –in modern times, that sacrifices are rarely done, its not a bad idea to ask for forgiveness of sins everyday).

  1. Seven days thou shalt make an atonement for the altar, and sanctify it ; and it shall be an altar most holy : whatsoever toucheth the altar shall be holy.

7days you will atone on the altar, and you will always sanctify it. It will be the most holy altar and anything that touches it will be holy

  1. ¶ Now this is that which thou shalt offer upon the altar ; two lambs of the first year day by day continually.

One in the morning and one in the evening.

  1. and with the one lamb a tenth deal of flour mingled with the fourth part of a hin of beaten oil ; and the fourth part of a hin of wine for a drink offering.

The first lamb which is to be offered in the morning is to be with an Omer of good flour and mixed with 1/4 of a hin of beaten oil and of wine as a drink offering.

  1. And the other lamb thou shalt offer at even, and shalt do thereto according to the meat offering of the morning, and according to the drink offering thereof, for a sweet savor, an offering made by fire unto the Lord.
  2. This shall be a continual burnt offering throughout your generations at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation before the Lord, where I will meet you, to speak there unto thee.

The second lamb which is for the evening, do it like that I’d a grain offering and drink offering of the morning, which is an offering made by fire. It should be done forever at the entrance of the place of meeting before the Lord.

  1. And there I will meet with the children of Israel, and the tabernacle shall be sanctified by my glory.

I will meet you there and speak to you. There will I meet with the children of Israel. It will be sanctified with my glory. (The glory of God sanctifies).

  2. And I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will be their God.
  3. And they shall know that I am the Lord their God, that brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, that I may dwell among them : I am the Lord their God.

Aaron and his sons will be sanctified that they may minister unto me (it is a requirement. For you to minister and not ‘die’, you need to be sanctified). Then will I dwell with Israel and be their God. Their God who brought them out of Egypt. I AM their God.

Exodus Chapter 25 (Review)

  1. And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
  2. Speak unto the children of Israel, that they bring me an offering : of every man that giveth it willingly with his heart ye shall take my offering.

And the lord spoke to Moses saying, TELL ISRAEL, THAT THEY SHOULD BRING ME AN OFFERING, AND ANY MAN THAT GIVES HIS OFFERING WILLINGLY (NOT GRUDGINGLY) AND IF THE OFFERING IS FROM HIS HEART, YOU ARE TO COLLECT IT

  1. And this is the offering which ye shall take of them ; gold, and silver, and brass,
  2. and blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine linen, and goats’ hair,
  3. and rams’ skins dyed red, and badgers’ skins, and shittim wood,
  4. oil for the light, spices for anointing oil, and for sweet incense,
  5. onyx stones, and stones to be set in the ephod, and in the breastplate.

The offerings you can take from them should be anyone of the following…gold, silver, brass, blue/purple scarlet and linen, goat hair, ram skin that’s dyed red, badgers skins, shittim wood, oil for light, spices for anointing oil and sweet incense, onyx stone, stones to put in the ephod, and in the breast plate

LET THEM MAKE ME A SANCTUARY SO THAT I WILL DWELL AMONG THEM

  1. According to all that I show thee, after the pattern of the tabernacle, and the pattern of all the instruments thereof, even so shall ye make it.

I will show you some patters, and you will make the sanctuary after it. Even the instruments within

  1. ¶ And they shall make an ark of shittim wood : two cubits and a half shall be the length thereof, and a cubit and a half the breadth thereof, and a cubit and a half the height thereof.

  3. And thou shalt cast four rings of gold for it, and put them in the four corners thereof ; and two rings shall be in the one side of it, and two rings in the other side of it.
  4. And thou shalt make staves of shittim wood, and overlay them with gold.
  5. And thou shalt put the staves into the rings by the sides of the ark, that the ark may be borne with them.

  8. And thou shalt make a mercy seat of pure gold : two cubits and a half shall be the length thereof, and a cubit and a half the breadth thereof.
  9. And thou shalt make two cherubim of gold, of beaten work shalt thou make them, in the two ends of the mercy seat.
  10. And make one cherub on the one end, and the other cherub on the other end : even of the mercy seat shall ye make the cherubim on the two ends thereof.
  11. And the cherubim shall stretch forth their wings on high, covering the mercy seat with their wings, and their faces shall look one to another ; toward the mercy seat shall the faces of the cherubim be.
  12. And thou shalt put the mercy seat above upon the ark ; and in the ark thou shalt put the testimony that I shall give thee.

Descriptives of an ark…which is pretty easy to comprehend and even better if you have an imaginative mind. I can even draw it.

Okay, I’ll make a sketch…😏

Now, this would be the second major time that the term ‘Cherubim’ would be mentioned. First was when Adam and his wife were sent out of the garden. From what we see of them, they always seem to guard or shield or protect somethings pertaining to God.

with-crown
Im so sorry i added extra details. its because of the stereotypes i had seen before. The bible text never said they were kneeling down.

  1. And there I will meet with thee, and I will commune with thee from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubim which are upon the ark of the testimony, of all things which I will give thee

I will speak to you from the top of the mercy seat. From he midst of the two cherubims which is covered with wings. The ark of testimony is a testimony of the things the Lord will give Moses. So they would be inside it.

  1. in commandment unto the children of Israel.
  2. ¶ Thou shalt also make a table of shittim wood : two cubits shall be the length thereof, and a cubit the breadth thereof, and a cubit and a half the height thereof.
  3. And thou shalt overlay it with pure gold, and make thereto a crown of gold round about.
  4. And thou shalt make unto it a border of a handbreadth round about, and thou shalt make a golden crown to the border thereof round about.
  5. And thou shalt make for it four rings of gold, and put the rings in the four corners that are on the four feet thereof.
  6. Over against the border shall the rings be for places of the staves to bear the table.
  7. And thou shalt make the staves of shittim wood, and overlay them with gold, that the table may be borne with them.
  8. And thou shalt make the dishes thereof, and spoons thereof, and covers thereof, and bowls thereof, to cover withal : of pure gold shalt thou make them.

A table as well with virtually the same dimensions as the ark.

  1. And thou shalt set upon the table showbread before me always.

Always set the bread of the Presence on the table before Me

  1. ¶ And thou shalt make a candlestick of pure gold : of beaten work shall the candlestick be made : his shaft, and his branches, his bowls, his knops, and his flowers, shall be of the same.
  2. And six branches shall come out of the sides of it ; three branches of the candlestick out of the one side, and three branches of the candlestick out of the other side :
  3. three bowls made like unto almonds, with a knop and a flower in one branch ; and three bowls made like almonds in the other branch, with a knop and a flower : so in the six branches that come out of the candlestick.
  4. And in the candlestick shall be four bowls made like unto almonds, with their knops and their flowers.
  5. And there shall be a knop under two branches of the same, and a knop under two branches of the same, and a knop under two branches of the same, according to the six branches that proceed out of the candlestick.
  6. Their knops and their branches shall be of the same : all of it shall be one beaten work of pure gold.

  8. And the tongs thereof, and the snuffdishes thereof, shall be of pure gold.
  9. Of a talent of pure gold shall he make it, with all these vessels.
  10. And look that thou make them after their pattern, which was showed thee in the mount.

Descriptives of the candle stick. To be of fine blended gold.

Exodus Chapter 24 (Review)

  1. And he said unto Moses, Come up unto the Lord, thou, and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel; and worship ye afar off.

And the Lord said unto Moses. Come unto the Lord. You as well as Aaron, Nadab, Abihu and seventy elders of Israel. And worship from afar.

  1. And Moses alone shall come near the Lord: but they shall not come nigh; neither shall the people go up with him.

Only Moses is to come near the Lord. No one else is to come close.

  1. And Moses came and told the people all the words of the Lord, and all the judgments: and all the people answered with one voice, and said, All the words which the Lord hath said will we do.

Moses then returned and told the people what the Lord said, and they responded and said…all what the Lord asks us to do, we will do.

  1. And Moses wrote all the words of the Lord, and rose up early in the morning, and builded an altar under the hill, and twelve pillars, according to the twelve tribes of Israel.

And Moses wrote all the words of the Lord down, then he rose up early the next morning, and built altars under the hill. He built an altar at the bottom of the hill and 12 pillars. One for each tribe of Israel.

  1. And he sent young men of the children of Israel, which offered burnt offerings, and sacrificed peace offerings of oxen unto the Lord.

Then he sent men of Israel (I’m assuming tribe by tribe) who offered burnt offerings and sacrificed peace offerings of oxen unto the Lord.

  1. And Moses took half of the blood, and put it in basins; and half of the blood he sprinkled on the altar.

And he took half of the blood of the sacrifice and put it in basins and the other half, he sprinkled on the altar

  1. And he took the book of the covenant, and read in the audience of the people: and they said, All that the Lord hath said will we do, and be obedient.

And he took the book wherein he wrote the covenant and he read it to the people, and they said…we will do what the Lord has said, and we will be obedient

  1. And Moses took the blood, and sprinkled it on the people, and said, Behold the blood of the covenant, which the Lord hath made with you concerning all these words.

Then Moses took the blood and sprinkled it on the people, and he said…this is the blood of the covenant the Lord just made with you concerning these words.

  1. Then went up Moses, and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel

Then Moses, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu and the seventy elders of Israel, went up

  1. and they saw the God of Israel : and there was under his feet as it were a paved work of a sapphire stone, and as it were the body of heaven in his clearness.

And they saw the God of Israel. 74 of them. And the bottom of his feet was like a pavement of sapphire stone, and it was like the body of heaven in clarity.

It was clear as the skies without clouds. God revealed himself to them.

  1. And upon the nobles of the children of Israel he laid not his hand: also they saw God, and did eat and drink.

He didn’t attack the nobles of Israel. But they saw Him, and they ate and drank.

  1. And the Lord said unto Moses, Come up to me into the mount, and be there: and I will give thee tables of stone, and a law, and commandments which I have written; that thou mayest teach them.

And the Lord said to Moses, climb up the mountain and come and meet me.
I will give you tables of stone, a law, and commandments that I-the Lord have written, so that you can teach them

  1. And Moses rose up, and his minister Joshua; and Moses went up into the mount of God.

Moses rose up, and so did his minister Joshua, and Moses went up the mountain of God

  1. And he said unto the elders, Tarry ye here for us, until we come again unto you: and, behold, Aaron and Hur are with you: if any man have any matters to do, let him come unto them.

And Moses said unto the elders, wait here for us, Neil we come back to you, look Aaron and Hur are here with you (the two people that held Moses’ hand when Israel warred with Amalek. If there be any matter, bring it to them.

  1. And Moses went up into the mount, and a cloud covered the mount.

And Moses went up the mountain, and a cloud did cover it.

  1. And the glory of the Lord abode upon mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days: and the seventh day he called unto Moses out of the midst of the cloud.

The Glory of the Lord rested and dwelled upon mount Sinai and the cloud covered the mountain for 6 days.
And on the 7th day, He called unto Moses from inside the cloud

  1. And the sight of the glory of the Lord was like devouring fire on the top of the mount in the eyes of the children of Israel.

And the Glory of the Lord looked like a consuming fire on top of the mountain to the children of Israel. That’s what they saw. We don’t know how it was from the view of Moses

  1. And Moses went into the midst of the cloud, and gat him up into the mount: and Moses was in the mount forty days and forty nights.

And Moses went through the midst of the cloud and got to the top of the mountain.
And Moses remained there for 40days and 40nights 🙊

Exodus Chapter 23 (Review)

  1. Thou shalt not raise a false report: put not thine hand with the wicked to be an unrighteous witness.

Do not spread fake or made up reports. Don’t join wicked people by being an unrighteous witness.

  1. Thou shalt not follow a multitude to do evil ; neither shalt thou speak in a cause to decline after many to wrest judgment :

Don’t follow a crowd and commit evil. If you are to testify in a case, don’t follow the crowd and try to prevent justice.

  1. neither shalt thou countenance a poor man in his cause.

That doesn’t mean you should side with a poor man because he is poor. Justice should prevail regardless.

  1. If thou meet thine enemy’s ox or his ass going astray, thou shalt surely bring it back to him again.

If you find your enemy’s ox or donkey going astray, go, take it, and bring it back to him.

  1. If thou see the ass of him that hateth thee lying under his burden, and wouldest forbear to help him, thou shalt surely help with him.

If you see the donkey of someone that hates you, lying down with a burden preventing It from rising, will you now leave it there? Stop whatever you’re doing and go and help him.

  1. Thou shalt not wrest the judgment of thy poor in his cause.

Don’t deny justice to the poor.

  1. Keep thee far from a false matter; and the innocent and righteous slay thou not : for I will not justify the wicked.

Don’t have anything to do with any false accusation and don’t put an innocent or honest man to death.  It will not make me look at the guilty as innocent or free.

  1. And thou shalt take no gift: for the gift blindeth the wise, and perverteth the words of the righteous.

Don’t take gifts (bribe), because they will unconsciously affect your decision and make you bias. And it makes the righteous one deviate from saying what he is to say.

  1. Also thou shalt not oppress a stranger: for ye know the heart of a stranger, seeing ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.

Don’t oppress a stranger, you know what it is like to be a stranger since you were strangers in Egypt.

  1. And six years thou shalt sow thy land, and shalt gather in the fruits thereof :

For 6 years, on land, you should sow/plant and reap/harvest

  1. but the seventh year thou shalt let it rest and lie still ; that the poor of thy people may eat : and what they leave the beasts of the field shall eat. In like manner thou shalt deal with thy vineyard, and with thy oliveyard.

But for the 7th year. Let the land lie fallow. So that the poor may eat (hungry people who wander about will eat of whatever they see growing there) you won’t do any work or weeding on the land during this period. And what is left of it will be eaten by field animals. The same applies to your vineyard and olive yard.

  1. Six days thou shalt do thy work, and on the seventh day thou shalt rest: that thine ox and thine ass may rest, and the son of thy handmaid, and the stranger, may be refreshed.

You are to work for 6days but you will rest on the 7th, during the 7th day, your animals will rest as well and not do field work. Your maids as well will rest and recover.

  1. And in all things that I have said unto you be circumspect: and make no mention of the name of other gods, neither let it be heard out of thy mouth.

Be careful and make sure you do all the things I’m telling you. Do not mention the names of other gods…don’t let them be heard in your mouth at all.

  1. Three times thou shalt keep a feast unto me in the year.

Three times in a year you will feast unto me.

  1. Thou shalt keep the feast of unleavened bread: (thou shalt eat unleavened bread seven days, as I commanded thee, in the time appointed of the month Abib ; for in it thou camest out from Egypt : and none shall appear before me empty 🙂
  2. and the feast of harvest, the firstfruits of thy labors, which thou hast sown in the field : and the feast of ingathering, which is in the end of the year, when thou hast gathered in thy labors out of the field.

The first is the feast of unleavened bread…. Of which you are to eat un-yeasted-bread for 7days…in the first month of the year, because that was when you came out of Egypt and no one is to appear before me, empty.
The second is the feast of harvest….of which you are to give me your first fruits,
The third is the feast of ingathering…where you go and gather your crops from the field.

  1. Three times in the year all thy males shall appear before the Lord God.

Three times in a year, all males are to come before the Lord.

  1. Thou shalt not offer the blood of my sacrifice with leavened bread; neither shall the fat of my sacrifice remain until the morning.

Don’t offer the blood of a sacrifice to me with yeasted bread.
The fat of my sacrifice should not be left till the next morning.

  1. The first of the firstfruits of thy land thou shalt bring into the house of the Lord thy God. Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother’s milk.

You will bring the first fruits of the land to the house of the Lord.
Do not boil a seed in its mother’s milk (in its most literal sense. Some say it is an act of idol worship as well)

  1. Behold, I send an angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared.

I am sending an angel before you, to keep you in the way, and to bring you to the place I have prepared.

  1. Beware of him, and obey his voice, provoke him not; for he will not pardon your transgressions: for my name is in him.

Beware of him (the Angel), obey his voice and don’t get him angry, he will not pardon your sins, because my name is in him. He is acting on my authority.

  1. But if thou shalt indeed obey his voice, and do all that I speak; then I will be an enemy unto thine enemies, and an adversary unto thine adversaries.

BUT IF YOU OBEY HIM AND LISTEN TO ALL HE TELLS YOU, AND DO ALL THAT I SAY, I WILL BE AN ENEMY TO YOUR ENEMIES, AND ANYBODY WHO MAKES YOU TO SUFFER WILL SUFFER BY MY HAND.

  1. For mine angel shall go before thee, and bring thee in unto the Amorites, and the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Canaanites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites ; and I will cut them off.

My angel will bring you to the lands mentioned and I will cut the inhabitants off.

  1. Thou shalt not bow down to their gods, nor serve them, nor do after their works: but thou shalt utterly overthrow them, and quite break down their images.

Don’t bow down to other gods or serve them. Don’t do what they do. Instead, overthrow them and destroy their representations.

  1. And ye shall serve the Lord your God, and he shall bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee.

And you will serve the Lord your God and He will bless your bread and water (not give you, but bless that which you have made available) and I will take sickness away from amidst you.

  1. There shall nothing cast their young, nor be barren, in thy land: the number of thy days I will fulfil.

There will be no miscarriages and no one will be barren in yet the land. I …not you…I will fulfil the number of your days.

  1. I will send my fear before thee, and will destroy all the people to whom thou shalt come; and I will make all thine enemies turn their backs unto thee.

The fear of Me will go before you and destroy all the people you would have met normally and would have confronted you, and your enemies will retreat and not look at you.

  1. And I will send hornets before thee, which shall drive out the Hivite, the Canaanite, and the Hittite, from before thee.

I will send a hornet before you into the land and it will drive away the Hittites, hivites and the Canaanites.

  1. I will not drive them out from before thee in one year; lest the land become desolate, and the beast of the field multiply against thee.
  2. By little and little I will drive them out from before thee, until thou be increased, and inherit the land.

I will not send them out all at once, so that animals don’t reproduce and before you get there, animals dominate the place. But I will send them out little by little, until you increase and inherit the land.

  1. And I will set thy bounds from the Red sea even unto the sea of the Philistines, and from the desert unto the river: for I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hand; and thou shalt drive them out before thee.

Your boundary would be from be Red Sea even to the sea of the philistines and then from the desert unto the river,  and I will deliver those living in the land to you. And you yourself will drive them out.

  1. Thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor with their gods.

You are not to make any covenant with them or with their gods.

  1. They shall not dwell in thy land, lest they make thee sin against me: for if thou serve their gods, it will surely be a snare unto thee.

They cannot stay in the land with you. They will make you sin. Bad company corrupts good manners. And if you serve their gods, it becomes a trap to you.

Exodus Chapter 22 (Review)

  1. If a man shall steal an ox, or a sheep, and kill it, or sell it ; he shall restore five oxen for an ox, and four sheep for a sheep.

  1. If the theft be certainly found in his hand alive, whether it be ox, or ass, or sheep ; he shall restore double.

  1. ¶ If a man shall cause a field or vineyard to be eaten, and shall put in his beast, and shall feed in another man’s field ; of the best of his own field, and of the best of his own vineyard, shall he make restitution.

  1. ¶ If fire break out, and catch in thorns, so that the stacks of corn, or the standing corn, or the field, be consumed therewith ; he that kindled the fire shall surely make restitution.

  1. ¶ If a man shall deliver unto his neighbor money or stuff to keep, and it be stolen out of the man’s house ; if the thief be found, let him pay double.

  1. If the thief be not found, then the master of the house shall be brought unto the judges, to see whether he have put his hand unto his neighbor’s goods.

If the thief is not found, the one in whose house the goods were kept will be called by the judges to see if he had a hand in the goods disappearance in anyway.

  1. ¶ For all manner of trespass, whether it be for ox, for ass, for sheep, for raiment, or for any manner of lost thing, which another challengeth to be his, the cause of both parties shall come before the judges ; and whom the judges shall condemn, he shall pay double unto his neighbor.

For every situation, whatever the subject may be…cattle, oxen, sheep etc, the two parties must come unto the judges and whoever the judges will condemn is to pay double.

  1. ¶ If a man deliver unto his neighbor an ass, or an ox, or a sheep, or any beast, to keep ; and it die, or be hurt, or driven away, no man seeing it :
  2. then shall an oath of the Lord be between them both, that he hath not put his hand unto his neighbor’s goods ; and the owner of it shall accept thereof, and he shall not make it good.

If a man gives to his neighbour any living animal to keep, and it dies, gets injured or runs away and no man sees it. Then both parties will swear an oath by the Lord. The one whom it was given to keep will say that he had no hand in the end result and the one who gave will have to accept. There will be no need to repay.

  1. And if it be stolen from him, he shall make restitution unto the owner thereof.

And if it is stolen from whom it was given to keep, he is to repay the owner.

  1. If it be torn in pieces, then let him bring it for witness, and he shall not make good that which was torn.

If it was torn into pieces maybe by a wild animal or something, he should bring it in that torn state as proof. He doesn’t have to repay.

  1. ¶ And if a man borrow aught of his neighbor, and it be hurt, or die, the owner thereof being not with it, he shall surely make it good.
  2. But if the owner thereof be with it, he shall not make it good : if it be a hired thing, it came for his hire.

If you borrow something from your neighbour and in his absence, the thing dies or injures, you are to repay. But if the owner is around and with it, no need to repay. If it was rented, the rental fee covers.

  1. ¶ And if a man entice a maid that is not betrothed, and lie with her, he shall surely endow her to be his wife.

If a man seduces an unengaged virgin and has sexual relations with her, he must pay dowry for her to be his wife.

  1. If her father utterly refuse to give her unto him, he shall pay money according to the dowry of virgins.

But if her father doesn’t give her to him, he is to still pay an equivalent of the dowry of virgins to her father in silver.

Anybody who has sexual relations with an animal must be put to death.

  1. ¶ He that sacrificeth unto any god, save unto the Lord only, he shall be utterly destroyed.

Anybody who sacrifices to any god except God will be totally destroyed.

  1. ¶ Thou shalt neither vex a stranger, nor oppress him : for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.

Do not annoy, exploit or oppress strangers, because you as well were strangers in Egypt (and you won’t want me to do to you what I did to the Egyptians….or would you 😏)

  1. Ye shall not afflict any widow, or fatherless child.

Do not maltreat widows or orphans or children who don’t have fathers.

  1. If thou afflict them in any wise, and they cry at all unto me, I will surely hear their cry ;

If you treat them anyhow and they cry to me, I will definitely hear their cry.

  1. and my wrath shall wax hot, and I will kill you with the sword ; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.

I will get angry and kill you with the sword, your wives and children will be in their state as well (widows and orphans).

  1. ¶ If thou lend money to any of my people that is poor by thee, thou shalt not be to him as a usurer, neither shalt thou lay upon him usury.

If you borrow poor people money, as long as they are my people, don’t use it for business; don’t charge them interest. It is the duty of the rich to give to the poor.

  1. If thou at all take thy neighbor’s raiment to pledge, thou shalt deliver it unto him by that the sun goeth down :

If you take anyone’s cloak as a pledge, return it before the end of the day.

  1. for that is his covering only, it is his raiment for his skin : wherein shall he sleep ? and it shall come to pass, when he crieth unto me, that I will hear ; for I am gracious.

Because that is his only covering, the covering for his body, if you don’t return it, what will he sleep in? When he cries to me, I will definitely hear him, because I am full of grace.

  1. ¶ Thou shalt not revile the gods, nor curse the ruler of thy people.

Don’t despise the Judges or curse a ruler amongst the people.

  1. ¶ Thou shalt not delay to offer the first of thy ripe fruits, and of thy liquors. ¶ The firstborn of thy sons shalt thou give unto me.

Do not waste time in bringing your first fruit to me. Also, know that all firstborns belong to me.

  1. Likewise shalt thou do with thine oxen, and with thy sheep : seven days it shall be with his dam ; on the eighth day thou shalt give it me.

The same applies to cattle and sheep. After birth, it will remain with its mother for 7days, and on the 8th, you give it to me.

  1. ¶ And ye shall be holy men unto me : neither shall ye eat any flesh that is torn of beasts in the fields ; ye shall cast it to the dogs.

BE HOLY FOR ME.
Don’t eat any meat torn down by wild animals, but you may give your dogs.

Exodus Chapter 21 (Review)

  1. Now these are the judgments which thou shalt set before them.

Give them these to abide by as well.

  1. If thou buy a Hebrew servant, six years he shall serve: and in the seventh he shall go out free for nothing.

If you purchase a Hebrew servant, let him serve you for 6 years, on the 7th year, let him go as a free man.

  1. If he came in by himself, he shall go out by himself: if he were married, then his wife shall go out with him.

If he came in by himself, he will go by himself. And if married, he will go with the wife whom he married. (Even if the wife hasn’t served up to 6years)

  1. If his master have given him a wife, and she have borne him sons or daughters; the wife and her children shall be her master’s, and he shall go out by himself.

If the master gave him his wife and she has given birth, both the wife and children remain with the master, only the servant himself will go.

  1. And if the servant shall plainly say, I love my master, my wife, and my children ; I will not go out free:

Then if he wilfully says he loves his master, wife and children, and that he will not go,

  1. then his master shall bring him unto the judges; he shall also bring him to the door, or unto the doorpost ; and his master shall bore his ear through with an awl; and he shall serve him for ever.

Then the master will take him to the judges and then to the door post of his house
And the master will use an awl

To pierce a hole into the servant’s ears, then he will serve the master forever,

  1. And if a man sell his daughter to be a maidservant, she shall not go out as the menservants do.

If a man sells his daughter to be a servant, she won’t leave the way men servants do (after 6 years)

  1. If she please not her master, who hath betrothed her to himself, then shall he let her be redeemed: to sell her unto a strange nation he shall have no power, seeing he hath dealt deceitfully with her.

If the master is not happy with her or if she is evil in his sight, (the sight of the master who had promised to marry her), then he shall allow for her to be redeemed. But he will not have the power to sell her to a strange nation because he said he would marry her of which he didn’t

  1. And if he have betrothed her unto his son, he shall deal with her after the manner of daughters.

And if she is to marry his son, she should be treated as a daughter.

  1. If he take him another wife, her food, her raiment, and her duty of marriage, shall he not diminish.

If the son gets another wife, the food, clothing, stipends and every other good thing of this maidservant turned wife must not reduce.

  1. And if he do not these three unto her, then shall she go out free without money.

If these things are not done, then she will go out free, as a free man.

  1. ¶ He that smiteth a man, so that he die, shall be surely put to death.

Whoever hits a man …that he should be killed or he intends to kill or if he dies, will be put to death. (Cain probably knew this and that is why when he killed Abel, he told the Lord that whoever finds him will kill him)

  1. And if a man lie not in wait, but God deliver him into his hand ; then I will appoint thee a place whither he shall flee.

If God delivers a man into your hand when you are not lying in wait to catch, the Lord will decide where the man will flee to. (If you’re not trying to kill a man but yet he dies by your hand by accident)

  1. But if a man come presumptuously upon his neighbor, to slay him with guile ; thou shalt take him from mine altar, that he may die.

If a man comes to kill his neighbour cunningly, you shall take him away from my altar so he will die.

  1. ¶ And he that smiteth his father, or his mother, shall be surely put to death.

Whoever kills, hits/beats up his father and mother will be put to death.

  1. ¶ And he that stealeth a man, and selleth him, or if he be found in his hand, he shall surely be put to death.

  2. if he rise again, and walk abroad upon his staff, then shall he that smote him be quit : only he shall pay for the loss of his time, and shall cause him to be thoroughly healed.

If two man struggle or quarrel and one hits another with a stone or fist, and he doesn’t die but is in a sick bed or is bedridden, when he rises up again, the person that hit him to that situation will pay for all his time wasted and pay for his healing as well.

  1. ¶ And if a man smite his servant, or his maid, with a rod, and he die under his hand ; he shall be surely punished.

If a man beats up his servant or maid up to the point where they die, he will be punished.

  1. Notwithstanding, if he continue a day or two, he shall not be punished : for he is his money.

But if the master is beating a servant once in a while for a good reason, it is allowed because it is his money.

  1. ¶ If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow : he shall be surely punished, according as the woman’s husband will lay upon him ; and he shall pay as the judges determine.

If there is a quarrel amongst men, and because of the situation going on, a pregnant woman gets hurt purposely so that the child in her dies, but nothing happens to her or the child, the man who is the cause will be punished according to what the pregnant woman’s husband sets. And he will pay whatever the judges decide.

  1. And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life,
  2. eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,
  3. burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.

But where something happens to her or the child, then a life for a life and vice versa.

  1. ¶ And if a man smite the eye of his servant, or the eye of his maid, that it perish ; he shall let him go free for his eye’s sake.

If a master strikes the eye of his servant and the servant goes blind, the master has to let the servant go free immediately.

  1. And if he smite out his manservant’s tooth, or his maidservant’s tooth ; he shall let him go free for his tooth’s sake.

The same above apples to a tooth.

  1. ¶ If an ox gore a man or a woman, that they die : then the ox shall be surely stoned, and his flesh shall not be eaten ; but the owner of the ox shall be quit.

If an ox uses its horn to kill a man or woman, the ox will be stoned and its flesh must not be eaten, and the owner shall lose his job on the ox.

  1. But if the ox were wont to push with his horn in time past, and it hath been testified to his owner, and he hath not kept him in, but that he hath killed a man or a woman ; the ox shall be stoned, and his owner also shall be put to death.

If the ox was used to goring in the past and it was told to the owner and he didn’t do anything about it, or lock up the ox, and now it has killed someone, the ox will be stoned and its owner will be put to death.

  1. If there be laid on him a sum of money, then he shall give for the ransom of his life whatsoever is laid upon him.

If the judges lay upon him a certain sum of money, then he shall pay the amount stated, that he might live.

  1. Whether he have gored a son, or have gored a daughter, according to this judgment shall it be done unto him.

Whether the ox pierced through a son or daughter, it will be done to him according to this judgement below.

  1. If the ox shall push a manservant or a maidservant ; he shall give unto their master thirty shekels of silver, and the ox shall be stoned.

  2. the owner of the pit shall make it good, and give money unto the owner of them ; and the dead beast shall be his.

If a man digs a pit and doesn’t cover it, and an ox or a donkey falls inside, the one who dug the pit will pay the owner of the animal for the animal while the one who dug the pit can keep the dead animal.

  1. And if one man’s ox hurt another’s that he die ; then they shall sell the live ox, and divide the money of it; and the dead ox also they shall divide.

If one man’s ox kills another man’s ox, then they will sell the living ox and share the money equally. And divide the dead ox as well and go and eat,

  1. Or if it be known that the ox hath used to push in time past, and his owner hath not kept him in; he shall surely pay ox for ox; and the dead shall be his own.

Or if it was known that the ox gored in the past, and the owner of the ox still let him wander about, he will pay, ox for ox and he will take the dead ox, while the former owner of the dead ox will take the living ox.
